NYCM Training: 5 Weeks To Go


Monday: 5 miles

Tuesday: 4 miles

Wednesday: First time at FlyWheel!

Thursday: iPad Yoga in my living room.

Friday & Saturday: Rest days. I don't know if it was too much birthday celebrating or just the weather changing, but I was not feeling 100%.

Sunday: 16 miles up the west side highway. This is the first time I've made it to the Little Red Lighthouse!

This run was far from perfect. I was still not feeling well so I didn't eat anything beforehand and I couldn't stomach the GU I brought with me. I stopped and bought a Sunny D, thinking the sugar would help, but a mile or two later I was close to vomiting. I probably shouldn't have gone running at all, but I really didn't want to skip another long run.

Total: 25 miles, 1 spin class, 1 yoga session

I'm starting to get nervous about the marathon. It's getting really close! I feel like I've been under the weather a majority of this training cycle so I need to really take care of myself the next few weeks. I want to be able to cross the finish line strong and healthy!

 

NYCM Training: 9 & 8 Weeks Out!

9 weeks to go!

Monday – 4 miles

Tuesday – rest

Wednesday – 8 miles. I had 15 on my schedule but that just wasn't going to happen. Worked too late and I just didn't have the time or energy to keep going.

Thursday – 4 miles

Friday – yoga

Saturday – NYRR Autism Speaks 4 miler. I PR-ed by over a minute! I know I'm still super, super slow but it's nice to see an improvement.

Sunday – post Atlantic City death. I laid on the couch all day and prayed for the hangover gods to just kill me off.

Total – 20 miles, 1 yoga session, 1 horrible hangover

 

8 weeks to go!

Monday – 4 miles

Tuesday – 4 miles

Wednesday – rest

Thursday – 3 miles

Friday – yoga

Saturday – another hangover. This needs to stop happening.

Sunday – 18 mile tune-up in Central Park on zero food or energy because I was so sick the day prior. I'm bad at life.

Total – 29 miles, 1 yoga session

Things I learned in the past two weeks:

  • I cannot handle booze. I rarely go out anymore but when I do I am SO SICK the next day…..like head pounding/so dehydrated/hurts to be alive kind of sick. I think I need to quit drinking until the marathon is over.
  • People take their clif shot bloks out of the plastic wrapper and wrap each blok in tinfoil? I saw a girl doing this on the subway on the way to race and it blew my mind.
  • My stomach does not like Gatorade. I had to stop THREE times during my 18 miler. Enough said.
  • I need new shoes. My feet and knees hurt while I'm running, so I'm thinking that's the cause.

 

Summer Solstice Yoga

Last Friday I celebrated the summer solstice with a little yoga in Times Square. For the past 11 years the Times Square alliance has hosted an all-day yoga event right in the heart of TSq. This was my first time participating and it was awesome!

I went to the 10am class and it was packed. I got there super early so I didn't have a hard time snagging a mat or finding a spot.

While I'm not really a yoga person(I think it's kind of boring), I am trying to incorporate it more into my life because I know it's good for my body.

Getting to do yoga in one of the busiest intersections in the country was definitely a unique experience and I'm definitely going to participate again next year.

Happy first day of summer!

Here are the things on my summer bucket list:I've been in this city almost 6 years and there are an embarrassing amount of things that I've never tried because they're “touristy” or whatever. I declare this the summer of tourist traps!

  • Summer Solstice Yoga in Times Square
  • Kayaking on the Hudson River
  • Shakespeare in the Park
  • Go to the beach
  • Rain room at MoMa
  • Go for a trail run
  • Swim laps outside
  • Broadway in Bryant Park
  • See an outdoor movie
  • Run during Summer Streets
  • Visit the Statue of Liberty

  • Train for the NYC marathon!!!

 

 

 

April Goals

Run three times a week.
I’ve been getting better about working out. In the past month I’ve gone from exercising twice a week(if that) to 4-5 times, but I need to get back into running. Now that it’s finally getting warmer I should be motivated to run outside.

Yoga once a week.
I said it before, I hate yoga….but it’s good for me so I’m going to keep trying it.

Cook” dinner once a week.
As in, don’t eat out or order take out. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just not from a restaurant.

Power down an hour before bed.
I struggle with insomnia and lately it’s been ridiculous so I’m ready to try anything. I’m hoping that if I cut down on phone/computer/tv before bed time(and read for an hour instead) I will be able to fall asleep easier.

Weekly Workouts: 3/25 – 3/31

Monday: Yoga(60 mins). I hate yoga. There, I said it. But it's good for me and I really want to like it…..maybe if I keep forcing myself to go ill eventually trick myself into liking it?

Tuesday: Spinning.

Wednesday: Chisel(30 mins) and urban rebounding(45 mins).

Thursday & Friday: Rest. Life is just too busy on Thursday and Friday to exercise. I need to work on figuring out how to fit it all in.

Saturday: Chisel(60 mins) and urban rebounding(45 mins). Plus I spent some time at the driving range, pretending to know how to golf. That counts, right?

Sunday: Unplanned rest day. I woke up on Sunday morning and my left calf was killing me. Hopefully it's just sore from chisel and I didn't really hurt the muscle. Either way, I spent the day foam rolling and eating Peeps instead of exercising.
