WIAW: The Meatball Shop

Happy WIAW! I've been trying to clean up my eating habits a bit, but it's hard because I'm always hungry! #marathontraininghunger !!!!

Breakfast – scrambled eggs with grated parmasean, an apple and an espresso

Lunch – raisin bran with skim milk, baby carrots and roasted red pepper hummus

Dinner – dinner at the meatball shop! I had a mini slider to start(chile relleno meatball with queso fresco and salsa verde) & chicken meatballs with spicy meat sauce over sautéed broccoli. The slider was phenomenal. It's a good thing it was a random special or I would go back every night!

 

WIAW: Red Hook Edition

Happy WIAW! I'm doing it a little different today. Instead of blogging a full day of food, I'm sharing a few different things I tried recently. So here we go…

On Saturday I decided to visit Red Hook, Brooklyn for a culinary adventure. There's a free ferry on the weekends from downtown so the boyfriend and I decided to take advantage and do a little exploring(and eating and drinking).

We got to Red Hook around 1:30 and we were starving so our first stop was Brooklyn Crab. It was adorable! There were a few floors with amazing views of the water and Manhattan, plus a few activities like mini golf and corn hole.

We knew we'd be stopping a few places so we decided to share something and then move on. We ordered the Wild Atlantic Cod with fries and coleslaw and a couple beers. So delicious! And I loved that it came on faux newspaper like fish and chips from England.

Our next stop was the Red Hook Winery. We were lucky enough to get an extensive tasting(12! too much!) and a private tour from Ben, the cellar master.
We learned all about the individual wine makers, where they source the grapes(Long Island and the Finger Lakes region) and we got to see where they make the wine and the barrel room, which was fun. The winery itself was super cute. It was right on the water and had a very cozy, rustic atmosphere. I think it would be a great spot for a private party or small wedding.
After copious amounts of wine, we(I) definitely needed more food so we headed to a popular brunch spot, home/made.

We split the truffled eggs and parm with potatoes and warm raisin-walnut bread. The bread was INCREDIBLE. I want to go back and eat a whole loaf. I also had a glass of prosecco because they were serving it from a tap, which I found bizarre. It was just okay – probably would have been fine in a mimosa, but I wouldn't drink it alone.

Our last stop for the day was for dessert – Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie. I cannot say enough good things about this place! It was adorable and the pie was so yummy!

We split a swingle – a mini key lime pie dipped in chocolate, served on a stick. Delicious!

It ended up being the perfect day! Everything was fantastic and I had a great time getting to know Red Hook.

 

WIAW: Oh! Taisho

 

 Happy WIAW! I haven’t done this is awhile so I definitely feel like it’s time. Here are my eats from yesterday:

Breakfast

Berries and an (unpictured) iced coffee

Lunch

Salad with grilled chicken, cheddar cheese and thousand island dressing

Dinner

All of the skewers from Oh! Taisho in the East Village. I tried a ton of different items – Tsukune(beef meatballs), Shishito(peppers), Aspara bacon(bacon wrapped asparagus), Hotate bacon(bacon wrapped scallops), Negi(scallions), and Ninniku(garlic). My favorites were easily the bacon wrapped asparagus and the shishito peppers. Can’t wait to go back and try more things!

Dessert

A pink lady apple, some Cocoa & Coconut Barney Butter and some cheddar cheese

WIAW: Making Healthier Restaurant Choices

I’ve been doing a lot better with my sugar intake this week! It’s been a little tough but I’m feeling a lot better(less bloating and stomach issues) so it’s definitely worth it. I have been pretty busy with work lately, which translates into a lot of eating out, but I’ve been trying to make healthier choices.

Peas and Crayons

Here are my eats from yesterday:

Power breakfast egg bowl with steak and avocado from Panera Bread. Unfortunately this was kind of terrible. I didn’t hate it but the steak was cold…so it felt weird eating it with hot eggs. Maybe just too many textures for me or something?

Grilled chicken Cobb salad from Le Pain Quotidien. This is a staple for me, I just love it!

A Quest bar and iced tea for snack time. I think I’m starting to get addicted to these bars!

Dinner at home: roasted chicken legs, broccoli and a random hard boiled egg.

I also had a few(too many) cups of coffee that managed to escape being photographed throughout the day.

WIAW: Cutting Out the Sugar

Lately I’ve been eating way too much sugar(bread, donuts, bagels, ice cream) and this week I’m making an effort to cut back on the treats and add more veggies to my diet. As always, thanks to Peas and Crayons for hosting WIAW. Here are my eats from yesterday:

Pre-run: tropical nuun

Breakfast: two fried eggs, iced coffee and some mini Brie

Lunch: a salad from TJ’s, sparkling water and some sugar-free jello

Dinner: garlic chicken sausage, brussel sprouts with bacon, wine, manchego, pecorino romano….the half eaten cookie isn’t mine!

WIAW: Race Day

Here are my eats from last Sunday, the day I ran a half marathon:

Pre-race: a sweet Hawaiin roll with crunch peanut butter + coffee with skim milk

During the race: vanilla bean GU

Post-race: Chipotle salad with pinto beans, cheese, steak and guac
Snack: yogurtland!

Dinner: porterhouse steak and peas + so much wine

WIAW: Too Much Cheese

It’s What I Ate Wednesday again! These are my eats from yesterday…

Breakfast – key lime chobani flip + iced coffee

Lunch – tuscan white bean and prosciutto salad at LPQ + more coffee

Yesterday was free cone day at Ben and Jerry’s so obviously I had to stop in there. I ended up getting the Liz Lemon flavor, which is a lemon Greek frozen yogurt with a blueberry lavender swirl. SO GOOD. Definitely worth waiting in line for 10 minutes.
Some jelly beans before my run. Because the ice cream wasn’t enough sugar for the day? I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

Dinner – egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin + salad with TJ’s pear champagne dressing

Dessert – way too much wine, cheese and pickles
