TIME: unsure, but definitely slow
WHERE: the east side of the Central Park loop, over to Riverside Park(where I played on the rings), down the Westside Highway to 59th street and back over to the east side
HOW’D IT FEEL? this is the farthest I've ever run by myself! (meaning not a race) so that's exciting. I walked a lot but I don't care. I'm going away this weekend so I'm sure I won't have time(or any desire) to run 9 miles, so I'm happy I got it done midweek.
Also, I found some awesome rings on a playground in riverside park! I seriously need some upper body strength training – I couldn't even make it to the 3rd ring!
8 miles on the schedule tomorrow morning means early bedtime, laying out my junk and no wine for me tonight.

WHERE: east river pathway
HOW’D IT FEEL? i really, really, really didn’t want to go but i had a blueberry/wine/cheese/cracker/jam feast waiting for me at home, so I made myself go. and now I feast.
On Saturday the boyfriend and I ventured into New Jersey for a hike. I'm definitely not exactly the “outdoorsy” type. My version of an outdoor activity usually involves sitting on a patio and drinking a margarita – so let me tell you, this was WAY out of my comfort zone.
We drove over the GW Bridge and up the palisades parkway to the State Line Lookout in the Palisades Interstate Park.
“At 532 feet above the Hudson River, State Line Lookout sits atop the highest point on the New Jersey Palisades. The rock of the Palisades, called diabase, was formed underground by volcanic activity about 200 million years ago. Processes of erosion, including the glaciers of the Ice Ages, then uncovered the eastern edge of the buried diabase and shaped it into cliffs. (The name “Palisades” is from the resemblance of the vertical columns of diabase to a palisade-type fence made of upright posts.)”
The view was amazing!
From there we ventured down the cliff side, along the “Giant Stairs” and then back up to the top – a 520 foot ascent! The loop was a little over four miles and meant for experienced hikers, which obviously I am not. It ended up taking about 2.5 hours when it probably should have taken 2. We spent some time taking photos, eating snacks(grapes and vitamin water!), and sat for few minutes after I slipped and fell(and scared myself half to death because I almost went tumbling down the cliffside).
I had a really great time and I can't wait to try something like this again. I'm also super thankful that my boyfriend was willing to try something new(his version of outdoors involves golf clubs and beers), plus he was the navigator while we hiked. I would have probably gotten us lost in the woods forever.
I still can't believe I did this! Definitely the most exhilarating thing I've done in a long time.

TIME: 1 hour, 34 minutes. Lots of walking.
WHERE: along the east river, over the footbridge to Randall's island and back.
HOW’D IT FEEL? still too hot to be running outside
And now I feel like a hungry, hungry hippo! I've been insatiable all day. I don't even know what's going to happen when I start running longer distances.
I feel like there's a good chance I'm going to put on a few pounds while I'm marathon training.
Right now I'm packing and then I'm off to the Jersey Shore for the next five days. My goal is to actually stay active on vacation. I want to run twice, swim and play tennis….very different than my usual sit-on-the-beach-and-drink style.
The true essentials: sneakers, flip flops, swim suits and booze!

WHERE? Central Park // Columbus Circle // midtown. I was running errands. literally.
HOW'D IT FEEL? so good! it was misting out which definitely helps with the heat. I ran 3.5 miles in almost the same time(90 sec difference) I ran just 3 last week. progress!
